Originally from Riverhead, L.I., N.Y. Mr. Mattei graduated from Riverhead High School in June, 1967. In August of that year he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force as a Morse Code Intercept Operator. In July 1969 he cross trained into the Printer Systems career field. He spent 1 ½ years in Taipei, Taiwan and 2 years in San Vito, Italy. He served until August, 1971.
Mr. Mattei is now retired and spends most of his time as President of Kids In Support of Soldiers, Inc., a 501©3 non profit charity that sends monthly care packages to our brave service members stationed overseas.
Mr. Mattei, along with his oldest granddaughter Elizabeth, started the organization in April, 2009,
after Elizabeth was sending packages to her cousin serving in Iraq and her cousin returned home.
Elizabeth asked her grandfather if she could continue to send care packages to soldiers. They found someone who had two sons serving overseas hence, the beginning of Kids In Support of Soldiers also known as KISS.
